Sheetz Starts Work on Second Store Location in MI
Sheetz starts work in Chesterfield Township for second Michigan store
Sheetz has begun construction on its second store in Michigan.
Sheetz, a 24/7 convenience store, restaurant and gas station, said Tuesday it broke ground on its Chesterfield Township location at 23 Mile east of Interstate 94, which is projected to open in late summer or early fall 2025. The 6,100-square-foot facility will have eight fueling islands for vehicles.
This time last year, the Chesterfield Township Planning Commission approved Sheetz to build on 1.66 acres at 29050 23 Mile Road in New Baltimore, according to minutes from the planning commission's March 5 meeting.
Sheetz officials said in an email that workers would be removing the canopy of an existing building at the site Tuesday afternoon.
Its first store in Michigan opened in Romulus in August 2024 and saw hundreds of guests who had been waiting for the chain to enter the Great Lakes State. This is the only location Sheetz says will offer high-flow diesel fueling for trucks.
Since opening, Sheetz representatives have appeared in several cities and townships in the state asking to move in, and in some cases receiving pushback from residents and city council boards.
Still, more than a dozen stores in Metro Detroit will begin construction this year and into 2026, the company said in a news release. And Sheetz remains on track to open 50-60 locations in southeast Michigan over the next five to six years.āWeāve listened to Detroit residents and support for Sheetz in their communities is undeniable,ā said Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz, in the release. āIn conversations at our first Romulus location, positive social media posts and comments at public hearings, we know people are ready for more convenience and restaurant options."
The Chesterfield Township site will need 30-35 workers with a majority expected to be full-time. All Sheetz sites offer indoor and outdoor seating and a drive-thru for made-to-order food and beverages.
