Joe Sheetz Named to Convenience Store News Hall of Fame!

Joe Joins His Uncle, Steve Sheetz, and Cousin, Stan Sheetz, in Hall of Fame

Altoona, PA (December 12, 2023) — Today Sheetz, is pleased to announce that Joe Sheetz has been named to the Convenience Store News Hall of Fame. Joe was officially inducted during a Hall of Fame ceremony held in Pittsburgh on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Joe is the third member of the Sheetz family to be inducted into this Hall of Fame, following his uncle Steve Sheetz, who was inducted in 1995, and his cousin Stan Sheetz, who became a Hall of Famer in 2013. Stan’s father, Bob, founded Sheetz in 1952 in Altoona, PA.

Over the past 36 years, the Convenience Store News Hall of Fame has recognized convenience store industry pioneers and innovators from retailer and supplier companies of all sizes. Hall of Famers are selected by an 80-member blue-ribbon panel of convenience channel executives that includes past retailer and supplier Hall of Fame inductees.

“My family was always focused on putting the Sheetz of today out of business through innovation,” said Joe. “I wanted to ensure that the forward vision they instilled in Sheetz continued when I became the CEO of the company. It’s an absolute honor to be able to follow their footsteps into this Hall of Fame.”

Joe served as Sheetz’s President and Chief Executive Officer from 2013 to 2018, and served solely as CEO until December 2021. Joe was succeeded by his brother Travis Sheetz as CEO in January 2022. Upon stepping down, Joe was appointed as Chairman of the Sheetz Board of Directors. As Board Chairman, Joe’s responsibilities have involved overseeing the Board’s activities as they relate to corporate governance and risk, executive appointments and compensation, and long-term planning.
“Joe’s time as CEO was marked with tremendous store growth and the development of new technologies that are now essential to our company,” said President/CEO Travis Sheetz. “To achieve the level of success we strive for, it takes devoted family members who believe in our mission and Joe is the perfect representation of that. Being named a Hall of Famer is a very well-deserved honor for Joe who has led Sheetz to unparalleled success in our industry.”

In Joe’s time as CEO, the company continued to grow and expand its footprint. Sheetz added more than 200 stores, 8,000 employees to its team member base with revenue that continued to increase. Under Joe’s leadership, Sheetz was a leader in bringing innovation and sustainability to the convenience industry.
