WHAT'S A SHEETZ?

Philosophers have been arguing about that question for years. “What exactly is a Sheetz? Where does it come from? Are we all a Sheetz?”

It may surprise you to learn that the answer to all those questions is a resounding “Yes!”

Sheetz is a one-stop solution for basically everything. It’s where you refill on gas. It’s where you pick up dinner for the family, or grab a late night snack to eat in your car while listening to a podcast. It’s where you meet your friends after the football game. It’s where you go when you have your “uh oh, we forgot to pack that” moment. It’s the cleanest bathroom this side of Oz. It’s all of those things, and it’s accomplished with a smile and an unmatched level of convenience.

IN THE BEGINNING

Rewind to 1952. Bob Sheetz is a man who looks at the world around him and finds it lacking. There is a convenience-shaped hole in his corner of America, and he decides it’s on him to fill it.

That year, Bob opens his first store in Altoona, PA. It’s a modest location on 5^th Avenue, but it’s exactly what he was looking for – A place from which he will serve his hometown.

Years pass, thousands of people find exactly what they’re looking for at the store, and each one of them walks out with a smile. Bob is happy that he’s found a way to elevate his community by providing people with kindness and convenience.

In 1969, Bob’s brother Steve comes in with plans to expand the little business into new locations. Together, they become the first people in human history to ask “Why the Sheetz Not?”

By 1972, there are 14 Sheetz stores. Better yet, they now offer self-service gasoline for added convenience. What was once a dream is now becoming a legend.

In 1983, Sheetz hit the 100-store landmark. What started as a store in Altoona was quickly becoming a regional sensation, and folks across hundreds of miles were starting to take notice.

However, Sheetz has always remained a family business at its core. Bob handed the reins over to his brother Steve that same year, and Bob’s son Stan stepped in as President in 1995, while his uncle Steve became Chairman of the Board.

Just like his dad and uncle, Stan Sheetz was an innovator. He introduced ideas like touchscreen ordering, Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, Made-To-Order and Shweetz Bakery food. He emphasized and honed in on convenience and quality, making Sheetz a landmark destination for everything the customers wanted.

In 2013, Bob’s nephew Joe S. Sheetz stepped in for Stan as the new President and CEO, while Stan became the new Chairman of the Board. The company continued to flourish and grow.

In 2022, Travis Sheetz became the current President & CEO, bringing with him a bold new vision for creating a brand that stood out from the crowd with a voice that dared people to embrace their hunger for quality, convenience and affordability.

Sheetz now spans across multiple states, and our footprint is only expanding. But we’ve never lost our core values, and we’re always staying true to our roots. Like Bob, we will continue to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve, and together we will forever ask “Why the Sheetz Not?”
